We only collect Personal Data about you if we have good reason to do so. For example, to be able to provide you with the our services, to communicate with you or to make our services better. We do this in 3 different ways: when you decide to provide them to us, automatically through our services, automatically through services of third parties.
In the following sections of this Privacy policy we will provide you with complete details on each type of data you collect. Specific information texts are then displayed on the site before the data is collected.
As we only wish to collect Personal Data if we have good reason to do so, you should consider that if refuse to communicate some Data, it may be impossible for this Website to provide you with the Service. Where is it on the Website the Data are indicated as optional, you are free not to provide such Data without this having consequences on the availability of the Service or on its operation. Method and place of processing of the collected Data
Methods of treatment
The owner of chiesi.tech adopts the appropriate security measures to prevent access, the unauthorized disclosure, modification or destruction of your Personal Data. We process your data Personal data through IT and/or telematic tools, in ways strictly related to the purposes indicated. This is a personal site run by one person, so the list of people with access is short: me, and the hosting provider that runs the server, which acts as data processor. There is no organisation behind it — no marketing team, no agencies, no mailing house. If that ever changes, this page will say so.
Place
Your Personal Data connected to the services of this site are processed at our operating offices and in each other place where the parties involved in the treatment are located and are only handled by staff specifically mandated. All data relating to the website, as well as the related backup copies, are stored on servers hosted in data centers within the European Union and compliant with regulations existing communities. It is not excluded that the same data may be processed or stored in countries outside of outside the European Union, where an adequate level of protection is guaranteed or in the presence of a specific one adequacy decision of the European Commission relating to the recipient country or if they are provided from the foreign Controllers and Processors involved adequate guarantees of a contractual nature, including clauses contractual type of data protection (Article 46, paragraph 2, letter c and letter d of EU Regulation 2016/679 on Data Protection).

Storage period
We process and store your Data only for the time required by the purposes for which they were collected.
Therefore:
- Ordinary server access logs, which the hosting provider keeps for a limited period as part of running the service.
- Email you send me, for as long as the conversation is useful and no longer.
Purpose of the processing of the collected data
This is a personal site that publishes articles and a CV. It sells nothing, registers nobody and measures no one. Personal data is processed for two purposes only:
- Serving the site. Delivering these pages to your browser and keeping the server running and secure — which produces ordinary access logs.
- Replying to you. If, and only if, you choose to send me an email.

Details on the processing of personal data
Personal data is collected for the following purposes and using the following services.
Contacting me
This Website has no contact form, no newsletter and no registration. The only way to reach me through it is the email address published on the contact page.
If you write to me, I process the address you write from and whatever you choose to put in the message, for the sole purpose of replying to you. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in answering correspondence, and your own initiative in sending it — art. 6(1)(f), and art. 6(1)(b) where your message concerns a possible working relationship. I keep that correspondence for as long as the exchange is useful, and no longer.
Personal data collected: your email address, and any personal data you include in the message itself. Nothing is collected automatically at the point of contact, because there is no form to collect it.
Analytics, and the absence of it
This Website runs no analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Matomo, no tag manager and no third-party measurement of any kind. No script on these pages reports your visit to anybody.
What does exist is the ordinary server log kept by the hosting provider. Every web server records the requests it serves, and those records include the IP address the request came from, the time, the page asked for, the response, and the browser’s user agent. That is the technical minimum needed to run a website, keep it available and investigate abuse. The lawful basis is legitimate interest — art. 6(1)(f), EU Regulation 2016/679.
This site is hosted by Hostinger International, which acts as data processor for those logs, processing them on my instructions. Their handling of visitor data collected on behalf of hosting customers is described in the Hostinger privacy policy and governed by their data processing addendum. I do not build profiles from these logs, and I do not use them to identify individual visitors.
A disclosure, for completeness: I work at Hostinger. That is where I chose to host my own site, and it does not change the processor relationship described above.
Third-party content, and the absence of it
Almost nothing here comes from anybody else. The fonts are served from this domain, not from Google Fonts or any other font service. There is no Font Awesome, no embedded map, no social widget, no advertising and no external comment system.
There is one exception, and it matters: embedded video. Some articles — write-ups of talks and hackathon projects — include the session recording inline, hosted either on YouTube or on WordPress.tv. Opening one of those makes your browser request the player from that provider, which necessarily tells them your IP address, your browser, and which page you came from. Pages without an embedded video contact nobody at all.
The YouTube embeds are served from youtube-nocookie.com, Google’s privacy-enhanced mode. I checked what difference that makes rather than trusting the name: a standard YouTube embed drops cookies the instant the page loads, before you touch anything. The privacy-enhanced one sets none. If you press play, YouTube will then set cookies and the video counts as watched, and at that point Google’s privacy policy governs what happens — not this one.
The WordPress.tv videos are served by Automattic from video.wordpress.com and set no cookies when the page loads either. Their handling is covered by the Automattic privacy policy.
If you would rather not contact either provider, skip the articles that carry an embedded video — they are obvious from the player on the page — or use a browser extension that blocks third-party frames. The rest of the site is unaffected.
There are ordinary links to other websites — LinkedIn, GitHub, WordPress.org, the sites of events I have spoken at. Following one takes you to a service with its own privacy policy, which this document does not cover. Until you click, nothing is sent to them.
User Rights
Pursuant to articles 15-21, 7 and 77 of the GDPR 2016/679, you can exercise certain rights with reference to your Data processed by Marco Chiesi:
In particular, you have the right to:
- withdraw consent at any time. That is, you can revoke your consent to the processing of your Personal Data previously expressed.

Definition and purpose

"Technical" cookies

These are the cookies used to track the user’s browsing on the web and create profiles on his tastes, habits, choices, etc. With these cookies, advertising messages can be transmitted to the user’s terminal in line with the preferences already expressed by the same user in the online navigation.

It may happen that a web page contains cookies from other sites and contained in various elements hosted on the page itself, such as advertising banners, images, videos, etc. In these cases, we are talking about so-called third-party cookies. Thus, the cookies you download to PCs, smartphones and tablets can also be read by other subjects, other than those who manage the web pages you visit. Use of cookies by this site
This Website sets no cookies. Browsing these pages as a visitor does not place a cookie on your device — not a technical one, not an analytics one, not a third-party one. You can verify that in your browser’s developer tools.
One thing is stored locally, and it is worth naming precisely. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is saved in your browser’s localStorage under the key ct-color-mode, so the site remembers it next time. It holds a single word — “light” or “dark”. It is never sent to the server, it is not readable by any other site, and it is created only if you press the switch. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
WordPress itself sets cookies for people who log in to administer the site. That is me, not you.
Why there is no cookie banner
You will not be asked to accept anything on this site, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight. Consent is required for storing or reading information on your device when it is not strictly necessary to provide what you asked for. This site stores nothing unless you press the theme switch, and that one preference is strictly necessary to do the thing you just asked it to do. There is nothing to consent to, so there is no banner.
Management and cancellation of cookies
In addition to what is indicated in this document, we inform you that Users may wish to limit the use of cookies or completely prevent them from being set. Most browsers allow you to control the behavior of cookies, such as archiving time, through integrated features or using third-party plug-ins.
